Director, Product Design - Wholesale

Lightspeed CommerceDeutschland

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by

Are you actively looking for a new opportunity? Or just checking the market? Well... you might just be in the right place!

We’re looking for a Director of Product Design to lead design for Lightspeed Wholesale (NuORDER) — the B2B platform where the world’s leading brands and retailers do business together. Behind every beautifully stocked store is an invisible web of buying, selling, and planning between brands and retailers. We’re turning that messy, relationship‐driven world into a product experience both sides love — and design is at the center of it.

This is a hands‐on leadership role. You’ll lead a talented team of designers directly, own the design vision and the quality bar for the entire product, and shape strategy as a full member of the Wholesale leadership team. If your best work happens close to the craft — in reviews, in critiques, in the details — rather than a level removed from it, this role was built for you.

Location: Toronto preferred; open to other locations in Ontario and Eastern Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Set and drive the design vision for a two‐sided B2B platform, connecting design decisions to real outcomes for brands, retailers, and the business.
  • Raise the bar on quality through direction, critique, and hands‐on involvement — making the work visibly better and building a shared standard the whole team designs against.
  • Lead designers directly as a coach and player‐coach: setting clear goals, giving sharp feedback, growing people into confident, independent contributors, and knowing when to jump in yourself.
  • Turn ambiguity into momentum by taking loosely defined strategic bets and shaping them into clear design direction and phased, shippable work.
  • Partner as equal with Product and Engineering leadership to shape the roadmap — making sure design informs decisions before they’re made, not after.
  • Champion coherence across a product experience that has grown fast, unifying fragmented journeys into one consistent, considered whole.
  • Build a healthy, high‐performing team — managing capacity and priorities honestly, recognizing great work, and making the design team a place strong people want to join and stay.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of product design experience, including significant work on complex, multi‐sided platforms — B2B, marketplaces, or commerce.
  • 7+ years leading design teams, with a track record of raising both the quality of the work and the capability of the people.
  • Strong personal design judgment — you can guide, critique, and elevate work across product, interaction, and visual design, and people seek out your eye.
  • Comfort leading without layers: you’ve run teams hands‐on and stayed close to the work, not just the process.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and shape strategy through clear communication and tangible design work.
  • A habit of asking “why are we building this at all?” — deep curiosity about product strategy, not just execution.
  • Experience navigating ambiguity and change while keeping a team focused, motivated, and shipping.

Benefits

  • A flexible work environment that empowers you to do your best work.
  • A culture that celebrates performance.
  • The chance to make an impact in a team that’s big enough for career growth, but lean enough to make your voice heard.
  • Career‐defining opportunities.
  • Flexible paid time off and remote work policies.
  • Equity options, because this is your company too.
  • Contributions to your pension plan. Your future matters.
  • Training opportunities to grow your skills and career.
  • Health and wellness credit so you feel your best.
  • Time off to volunteer and give back to your community.
  • Interest groups, employee‐led networks, social committees to sponsored sports teams.
  • Computer purchase program to get your personal MacBook.
  • Enhanced parental leave to support growing families.
