Mechanical Design Engineer - Components
About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
Ready to turn advanced turbine designs into high-performance hardware?
As a Mechanical Design Engineer for Gas Turbine Components & Manufacturing, you’ll own critical turbine components from product definition through manufacturing readiness, qualification, production, and continuous improvement. You’ll work at the intersection of design and manufacturing, partnering with suppliers and global engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges and bring next-generation gas turbine components to life.
Your work will directly influence turbine reliability, performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability while helping deliver the technologies that power the world’s energy infrastructure.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Own critical components: Support turbine components across the engineering lifecycle - from new product introduction (NPI) and product definition through manufacturing, qualification, production, and continuous improvement.
- Drive manufacturing readiness: Develop and industrialize manufacturing processes, including investment casting, conventional machining, and non-conventional machining, while improving quality, efficiency, and cost.
- Design for manufacturability: Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles and perform GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, dimensional reviews, and fit/clearance assessments to optimize component performance and production capability.
- Solve complex hardware challenges: Evaluate and disposition non-conforming components, balancing engineering requirements, durability, performance, manufacturability, cost, and production needs.
- Partner across the business: Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, suppliers, materials, operations, service, and global engineering teams to resolve technical challenges and improve component performance.
- Lead continuous improvement: Serve as a trusted technical resource while identifying opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, component quality, reliability, throughput, and engineering efficiency
What You Bring
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant hands-on experience may also be considered.
- 3+ years of engineering experience supporting mechanical components in manufacturing, product development, turbomachinery, aerospace, rotating equipment, or a similar environment.
- Experience with manufacturing processes such as investment casting, conventional/non-conventional machining, or other precision component manufacturing methods.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and applying GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, dimensional requirements, fit/clearance, and assembly considerations.
- Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred
- Experience evaluating manufacturing issues, component deviations, or non-conforming hardware, particularly involving gas turbines, turbomachinery, or high-temperature components.
- Experience with Siemens NX, Creo, CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar CAD tools, plus familiarity with Teamcenter, SAP, PLM, ERP, MES, or comparable engineering/manufacturing systems.
Why This Role Matters
This is more than a manufacturing-support position. You’ll have the opportunity to build deep expertise in gas turbine component engineering, influence how critical hardware is designed and manufactured, and grow toward broader component ownership, technical-authority, supplier-leadership, and global engineering responsibilities.
Your engineering decisions will help improve the performance, reliability, efficiency, and manufacturability of advanced gas turbine technology - supporting reliable energy today while helping shape the energy systems of tomorrow.
