Head of Accounting (f/m/d)

I’m currently supporting a fast-growing international Tech company in Berlin in the search for a Head of Accounting to take ownership of its accounting function and help shape the next stage of its finance organisation.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who combines strong technical accounting expertise with a genuine interest in building, improving and scaling finance processes.

The Role

As Head of Accounting, you will:

• Take ownership of the company’s accounting function and ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual closings
• Lead and develop the accounting team while remaining close to the operational topics
• Ensure compliance with relevant German accounting and statutory requirements
• Coordinate external auditors, tax advisors and other external stakeholders
• Continuously improve accounting processes, controls and reporting structures
• Drive automation, digitalisation and ERP/process improvement initiatives
• Work closely with Controlling, Finance, Tax and other business functions
• Support the development of a scalable finance organisation as the company continues to grow
• Act as a key sparring partner to senior finance leadership

Your Background

We’re looking for someone with:

• +8 years of experience in Accounting, Financial Reporting or Group Accounting
• Strong knowledge of HGB; IFRS exposure is highly advantageous
• Previous leadership experience or clear experience taking ownership of teams and complex accounting topics
• Experience with monthly and annual closing processes
• A strong understanding of accounting systems, processes and internal controls
• An interest in automation, process optimisation and finance transformation
• A pragmatic, hands-on mindset combined with the ability to operate at a strategic level
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills
• Professional fluency in German and English
