Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) for the Investigation of Quantum Magnets
Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) for the Investigation of Quantum Magnets
Reference No.: QM 2026/4
The Institute of Quantum Phenomena in Novel Materials conducts world-leading research in quantum and frustrated magnetism, multifunctional materials, and superconductivity. It combines advanced materials synthesis and characterization facilities with X-ray, neutron scattering, and muon spectroscopy experiments, supported by close collaboration with theoretical researchers. This postdoctoral position focuses on exploring emergent states and properties of quantum and topological magnets through experimental measurements, advanced data analysis, and numerical simulations. You will investigate magnetic states and excitations in novel materials using neutron scattering, muon spectroscopy, and complementary laboratory techniques, while developing and applying state-of-the-art methods to interpret results and guide future experiments.
Your Tasks
- Conduct neutron scattering and muon spectroscopy experiments to investigate magnetic states and excitations in quantum magnets.
- Develop methods for the analysis of large datasets and comparison with theoretical models.
- Perform numerical simulations to interpret experimental results and identify novel phenomena.
Your Profile
- PhD specializing in condensed matter physics
- In-depth knowledge of the field of magnetism
- Ideally: knowledge of neutron and/or muon techniques
- Ideally: Computer programming skills
Your Benefits
At Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, you will benefit from state-of-the-art research facilities, and a wide range of benefits to support your scientific career:
- Work as part of an international team with highly motivated colleagues
- Career-enhancing networking opportunities, individual guidance, and support through our Graduate Center and Postdoc Office
- Flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely
- 30 days of vacation per year and attractive renumeration according to the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund), plus company pension plan
- Relocation support from non-EU countries
- German and English courses for all proficiency levels
- Advisory services through our Office for Work & Life
- Subsidy for the public transport “Deutschlandticket Job” and exclusive employee discounts
Fixed term contract for 36 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
