Our breeding activities comprise bedding and balcony plants, houseplants, perennials and cut flowers. With our production sites, breeding locations and sales companies in Europe, Africa, Asia and America, we serve all relevant markets worldwide.

For our breeding location in Stuttgart, Germany, or in Latina, Italy, we are currently looking for a Breeding Program Lead / Senior Breeder (m/f/x)

Ornamental plant breeding requires solid technical knowledge and hands-on practical expertise, combined with strategic vision and a good sense for market needs. In this role, you will help define where we invest, where we differentiate, and how the Selecta breeding portfolio evolves.

Breeding at the Selecta Group today combines classical breeding approaches with modern tools and collaborative decision-making across the value chain. Our breeders work closely with colleagues worldwide. As a result, this position involves regular national and international business travel.

YOUR TASKS

• Lead breeding programs for selected ornamental crops
• Establish breeding objectives within the breeding team - considering input from product management, sales, production and market developments
• Design crossing strategies and make selection decisions
• Contribute to portfolio prioritisation and long-term breeding strategy
• Work in a multi-locational, internationally operating breeding organization

YOUR PROFILE

• Several years of successful, hands-on breeding experience (no PhD or specific crop required)
• A strong practical sense for plants, genetics and selection
• Strategic thinking and the ability to connect breeding decisions to market reality
• Willingness to challenge existing approaches and take responsibility for outcomes
• Team-oriented mindset, the ability to work across cultures and locations and willingness to travel
• Fluent English is mandatory, knowledge in German or Italian is a plus
