Head of Field Engineering
Gehalt: Von 120.000,00 € bis 160.000,00 €
This role as Head of field Engineering requires close collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including project leadership, engineering, installation, testing, RAMS, quality teams, procurement, customer representatives, subcontractors, and O&M teams.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Lead and manage the Field Engineering function for railway signaling and infrastructure projects, including ETCS, interlocking, and trackside systems
- Ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution of on-site engineering activities across installation, testing, commissioning, and system integration phases.
- Act as the senior escalation point for field‐related technical issues, interface conflicts, deviations, and non‐conformities.
- Drive coordination between Engineering, Project Management, Installation, Test & Commissioning, Quality, RAMS, Supply Chain, and customer teams.
- Ensure field activities are performed in line with project requirements, approved engineering documentation, railway standards and regulations, safety and quality obligations, and operational constraints.
- Support resolution of critical technical issues affecting project delivery, site progress, system performance, or customer acceptance.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and application of field engineering documentation, work instructions, method statements, red‐marked drawings, and as‐built feedback.
- Ensure robust management of technical interfaces between signaling subsystems and other railway disciplines.
- Plan and allocate field engineering resources in line with project priorities, milestones, and site constraints.
- Monitor field performance, identify execution risks, and define mitigation actions to protect schedule, quality, and safety.
- Provide technical leadership during key project phases, including site mobilization, testing readiness, commissioning, and handover.
- Manage technical relationships with customers, partners, subcontractors, and external stakeholders on field engineering matters.
- Contribute to project start‐up, bid support, constructability reviews, site engineering strategies, and lessons learned activities.
- Promote a culture of technical excellence, accountability, collaboration, safety, and delivery focus across the field engineering organization.
PROFILE DESCRIPTION
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automation, Telecommunications, or a comparable technical field.
- Strong background in railway signaling, with hands‐on involvement in site activities such as installation, testing, commissioning, and technical fault analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate field engineering teams within complex railway or mass‐transit projects.
- In‐depth understanding of signaling systems, site constraints, and integration challenges in both brownfield and greenfield environments.
- Skilled in managing technical issues in operational railway settings, including work under restricted access or possession windows.
- Solid familiarity with project delivery frameworks, technical governance, quality standards, and safety‐critical environments.
- Confident in collaborating with customers, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary internal teams.
- International project exposure and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Excellent German and English language skills, both written and spoken
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES & LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES
This role requires strong technical capabilities in railway signaling, site engineering, installation and commissioning support, technical problem‐solving, interface and change management, risk mitigation in operational rail environments, and a solid understanding of safety‐critical systems, compliance requirements, and project quality standards.
