What you will do
Under general direction and in conformance with company policy, maintains the necessary inventory levels of manufacturing supplies and tools to support production needs and maintenance operations. Purchases and controls indirect materials, supplies, equipment, parts, tools and services, as needed in the manufacture of battery products and associated operations. Ensures all tools required for production meet the organization's quality standards and calibration specifications.
How you will do it
- Supervises tool crib to provide a safe working environment. Makes safety the first priority and proactively seeks to improve safety practices.
- Ensures proper stock levels are maintained to meet manufacturing’s requirements.
- Receives purchase requests and requisitions. Reviews them to confirm need, conformity to company policy and/or plant practice and completeness of identification or description.
- Obtains competitive quotations of price and delivery on products meeting defined requirements and places an order for company needs are best served.
- Determines delivery availability and discounting available so as to optimize order points and quantities of material stores.
- Contacts vendors to obtain information pertaining to product, service, price and ability of vendor to meet requirements of delivery date and quantity.
- Informs suppliers and /or contractors of unsatisfactory or substandard quality of performance and arranges for appropriate corrective action to be taken.
- Follows-up and expedites delivery of purchased commodities in orderly and current condition. This will include cost, product and vendor information.
- Transmits receiving information to accounts payable to ensure prompt payment of invoices and when appropriate, approves invoices for payment based on records of compliance to purchase by vendor.
- Assures compliance with environmental, safety and health regulations and good housekeeping practices within assigned areas, as well as compliance with all Quality Specifications.
- Performs other duties directed by supervisor.
- Overtime is required to meet internal and external customer requirements
What we look forRequired
- Four year technical degree preferred; will consider candidates with comparable experience in lieu of degree.
- Minimum 4 years relevant purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
- MAXIMO and SAP software experience is a plus. Ability to operate a computer workstation and knowledge of related software.
- Knowledge of purchasing, supplier qualification, and vendor/supplier management
- Understanding of 5S and Lean Manufacturing concepts
- Effective negotiation skills
- Experience with project/task management including ability to plan, prioritize, organize and analyze
- Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization
