Head of BESS EPC - IPP - Germany - Hamburg or Munich

The Company

A rapidly growing Independent Power Producer (IPP) focused on developing, building, and operating utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage assets across Germany and Europe. With a significant pipeline of projects under development and construction, the company is expanding its leadership team to support the delivery of large-scale BESS projects.

The Role

  • The Head of EPC will lead the execution and delivery of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from financial close through construction, commissioning, and commercial operation.
  • Reporting to senior leadership, this individual will oversee EPC strategy, contractor management, project delivery, and construction performance across a portfolio of projects, ensuring assets are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of utility-scale BESS projects through construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Manage EPC contractors, key suppliers, and external delivery partners.
  • Oversee project schedules, budgets, quality standards, and risk management activities.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE, regulatory, contractual, and technical requirements.
  • Drive project governance, reporting, and stakeholder management across internal and external teams.
  • Support procurement, contract negotiations, and commercial decision-making throughout project delivery.
  • Coordinate with development, grid, engineering, and operations teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Identify and mitigate construction, commercial, and technical risks.
  • Build and develop internal project delivery capabilities as the portfolio continues to scale.

Profile

  • Extensive experience delivering large-scale energy infrastructure projects, ideally within BESS, renewables, transmission, or related sectors.
  • Proven track record managing EPC contracts and complex construction programmes.
  • Strong commercial, contractual, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and external contractors.
  • Sound understanding of project controls, risk management, and construction best practices.
  • Fluent German and English language skills are advantageous.
