IT Systems Administrator (m/f/d) with a focus on IT security

As a leading center for the treatment of cardiovascular and diabetes-related diseases with more than 2,800 employees, the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia (HDZ NRW)—a university hospital affiliated with Ruhr University Bochum and a close partner of Bielefeld University—is one of the largest and most modern centers of its kind in Europe. Patients of all ages benefit from interdisciplinary care at the highest university level.
Our IT department consists of a dedicated team of 40 employees and combines the areas of IT infrastructure, clinical systems, and development. Your Responsibilities at the HDZ:

  • Active participation in various IT areas (e.g., client management with software distribution, data center operations with server and storage systems, and network technology) to gain a comprehensive understanding of our IT landscape and processes
  • Supporting the operation, administration, and further development of our IT security solutions
  • Managing public/enterprise PKI components and administering IAM/PAM solutions

Development & Career Prospects

  • Gradual assumption of responsibilities in the areas of cybersecurity and security engineering
  • Implementation and further development of vulnerability management, as well as measures to harden systems
  • Support for security projects as well as the implementation and further development of security solutions and processes
  • Participation in the evaluation of new technologies and procedures to improve security levels

Collaboration & Communication

  • Helping to design and implement security awareness initiatives for employees

We are looking for:

  • Enthusiasm for IT, technical concepts, and IT security, as well as a willingness to continuously learn about new technologies
  • Completed vocational training or a degree in computer science, or a comparable qualification
  • Solid practical experience in the administration of Windows and/or Linux systems, as well as a good understanding of network and infrastructure components
  • Ideally, practical experience in one or more areas of IT security, such as EDR/XDR, vulnerability management, log management, PKI, or IAM
  • Basic knowledge of IT service management processes (ITIL) as well as relevant security standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., BSI Basic Protection, KRITIS/NIS2) is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as a structured and independent approach to work
  • Very good German language skills (at least C1) and good English language skills

We offer you:

  • Attractive compensation in accordance with TVöD-K—salary naturally depends on your education and professional experience.

  • Employer-funded retirement plan – every month, we contribute 4.5% of your salary toward a company pension so that you’re financially secure in retirement.
  • Exciting opportunities for continuing education and professional development—your growth is our growth, which is why we support you with targeted internal and external training and certifications (e.g., CompTIA)
  • Teamwork – is more than just a buzzword for us: In our IT team, specialists (m/f/d) with diverse skills and experience work closely together, share their knowledge, and jointly develop innovative solutions. Continuous professional development and an openness to new ideas are integral parts of our collaboration.
